Jeff Bezos leaving the helm of Amazon: The end of an era
News - Feb 05, 2021
Amazon announced that its founder and CEO Jeff Bezos will withdraw from the helm of the company he established nearly three decades ago in his garage, and that he would be succeeded by Andy Jassy. The founder will assume the position of Executive President, which will provide him with time and energy to focus on other products.
The wealthiest man in the world was leading Amazon since its foundation in 1994.
Today, the company employs 1.3 million people worldwide, with a sales boom recorded last year, when the coronavirus pandemic boosted e-commerce growth.
The change at the top will be effective in the second half of 2021.
Bezos sent a notice to his employees, stating that he was excited to leave the position of the CEO of the company.
