TikTok is not for sale after all, an app that will change the world comes to India

News - Sep 16, 2020

YouTube announced that it would test the beta version of the strongest rival to TikTok ever, in India, since this app has recently been banned in the country which, after China, had by far the highest number of users.

It is a new form of video clips on YouTube, called YouTube Shorts. Clips produced in this format will last up to 15 seconds and will have functions and options for modifying clips like the Chinese app   TikTok.

India banned TikTok, together with 58 other apps of Chinese companies, in June, when the tensions between the two countries intensified.

At that point, India was the highest foreign user of TikTok, with 120+ million users, the BBC reports.

Also, China’s ByteDance, the owner of the popular app TikTok, informed Microsoft that it would not sell its US business to it, the Reuters reports, adding that a partnership with Oracle as agreed instead of the sale.

US president Donald Trump set a deadline for ByteDance in August to sell or halt the US operations of TikTok, otherwise this Chinese app would be banned in the USA.
