Turkey banned advertising on social media platforms

News - Jan 21, 2021

All SoMe platforms which do not appoint reps in Turkey will not receive funds from companies and users wishing to advertise on those platforms and are registered in that country, the AP reports.

Turkey introduced the ban of advertising on Twitter, Periscope and Pinterest. According to officials, this is done because those companies do not comply with a new law, defining that SoMe platforms are obliged to appoint reps in that country.

Facebook avoided the ban after it announced on Monday that it had launched a process of selecting a legal entity in Turkey, thus joining LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Dailymotion and Russia’s VKontakt, which accepted the appointment of a legal rep in Turkey.
