Cosmetics sales plunged due to pandemic
News - Dec 04, 2020
The latest survey conducted by Nielsen, a global public research firm, shows that sales of cosmetics products plunged due to the restrictive measures in the pandemic. This primarily refers to makeup.
As Italy’s ‘Il Manifesto’ reports, lipstick sales fell by 24 percent globally, whereas eye makeup dropped by 10 percent.
According to the author this trend can be explained by the fact that lipstick under a safety mask can only cause damage, smear over the face and stains the mask, while the lips are not even visible.
From January to June, lipstick sales dropped by up to 60 percent, and eye makeup sales by nearly 30 percent compared to the same period last year.
These findings are confirmed by a survey conducted by Italy’s National Association of Cosmetics Producers in the past two months.
