Google is to become Twitter? It’s testing a real-time feedback option

News - Jan 14, 2020

Google is testing users’ comments during live programmes – following sports events, a real-time feedback option is now enabled for TV as well, within search results.

This is still in a testing phase and it’s possible that it’s not visible to everyone, but a simple search of a programme on a mobile phone features a section with comments and chats with other users of Google.

You can see what it looks like in a tweet below:

The new option enables comment management and addition in a search here. Comments are public and it’s not possible to post them anonymously, as they appear with a Google account user’s photo and name. A test for TV series represents the continuation of the option of commenting on sports events, which has been functioning successfully for some time now, during the FIFA World Cup and similar events.

Availability of this option is important because Google thus significantly increases social engagement and conversation, as well as enters the domains of Twitter, well-known for real-time comments on a variety of content.
